Hello 2012 and here's to more Good Ideas!

by Melissa Floyd on 01/08/12

Welcome to 2012 at the Shenandoah Academy of Dance! We are off to a really great start!

How amazing can this get! This week starts off with a bang! Modern with Callan comes back at 4p.m., followed by technique and finishing up with partnering! Thursday I have the opportunity to set another pas de deux with Jonah and Meredith and then......Master class with Mr. Valery Lantrotov this Friday!

On Saturday, I have high hopes of finishing the first Friends dance with Swanhilda and finishing the Mazurka! I love how things just develop without notice! This past Saturday, I had no idea that I would be featuring Amelia Sunnen and Chanson Hardy in the Mazurka! It was just another good idea!

Until next time.....

Farewell to Nutcracker 2011....

by Melissa Floyd on 12/19/11

As we break for Christmas, I should take some time to reflect on the studio happenings. We have been very busy since this last time year!

After the tremendous success we experienced with our first full-length Nutcracker, the studio embarked on its first full-length version of The Sleeping Beauty. What a Tchaikovsky-fest we had! As dancers disbanded for the summer, the studio moved into its current location in the Buena Vista Fine Art and Culture Center just a short walk down the street.

Then came Nutcracker 2011! Expanded dancing for many cast members, expanded Snow Corps, new Mom G vehicle (thank God last year's dress was still a good fit!), 2 Dew Drops, 2 Snow Queens, 7 dancing Russians and 2 different versions of Arabian (beginning to sound like the 12 days of Christmas?)!

And now we bid farewell to 2011 with new visions on the horizon....
